Thankful to Thank

Thankful now for God's presence then...

Happy Thanksgiving Thursday Morning! Thanks for taking 3 minutes of this Thanksgiving Day to read the EYM newsletter! 🦃

Just yesterday I overheard (not snooping) my wife sharing feelings of dread and anxiety we both reflect on regularly of when a doctor said “physically impossible” were the odds of us ever having a child.

But now, I’m thankful to God for opportunity to teach the son we were told we wouldn’t have, to drive 🚘. Side Note: I never realized how fast 15 m.p.h. is until my son started driving…😓.

Between a doctor’s bleak prognosis in 2007 to now, are many details. Yet through every point of stress and distress I thank God for opportunity to continue to thank Him for His presence in our marriage.

The details are different but I pray today, you see and celebrate God in the great and not so great of your marriage. As I’ve come to learn, “marriage is a perfect mix of un-perfect hills and valleys, and some sort of way by God’s grace He sustains us through it all”.

Give God Thanks, for what He has done in your marriage, which is what you have opportunity to thank Him from now. What He’s doing now to sustain your marriage, will be a future point of thanks-giving.

In 1 Samuel 2, after much prayer & waiting on the Lord in her reality: unable to have a child, a female servant that teased her about it and a husband that couldn’t relate to the depth of her pain (read chapter 1), the Lord then gave Hannah a son. So she prayed & gave thanks to God. Here are just the 1st 2 verses of Hannah’s prayer to the Lord:

And Hannah prayed and said, My heart exults in the Lord; my horn is exalted in the Lord. My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. “There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.

1 Samuel 2:1-2

Read, then pray through Hannah’s prayer together in your own words. Even if or while all is not perfect, thank the Lord for how He has sustained your marriage through many seasons of hill and valley. Settle in on the words in red & I pray God will bring you to a place where you become happy just to (be able to) give God thanks - today.

That’s it! Have a Great Week.

Please share with a friend!

Happy to Give Thanks
