Christian Marriage 101: Compound Interest
One change that will change everything
Happy Thursday! Special welcome to our new subscribers this week.
2024 has been a good year - I started this newsletter which is now 38 weeks strong 💪🏽, I started the But Grow in Grace newsletter for Christian men which is 16 weeks strong 👨🏽‍💼, transitioned from local FM radio on Praise 106.1 Baltimore back to a podcast…its been a pretty good year.
A thought that has really blessed me this year is that all of the couples on the podcast had 1 thing in common: each stayed connected through a daily meeting routine. Not all did it the same way, some walked, some had a no kids zone in their house, another had strict rules about dinner time, and perhaps the one that blessed me the most was Dr. Harold Arnold sharing he and his wife of 32 years doing daily devotions together. Two big statements stick with me: (1)“It’s like compound interest”, (2) Do a favor for a future version of your marriage…
Watch the whole interview - it will bless you. But, specifically, about daily devotions Dr Arnold encouraged it’s like compound interest, don’t expect big changes right away. In fact he said, you might not see much change even in a year, it adds up over time
If we bring the thought of “compound interest” out of the finance world and bring it into our marriage we tap into exponential growth - for our marriage. Begin to spend 5 minutes a day in devotions to the Lord as a couple. Read, listen and pray together…
Communication. Trust. Intimacy. Money stuff. Whatever you want to improve in your marriage, first improve it with the Lord. Start to do it consistently and watch how the Lord grows your marriage over time.
A Growing Marriage in the Lord
Consistency - agree to a meet on some regular schedule daily. I get it we are all busy. Think of it as an investment and the return is a deeper, fulfilling, Christ centered marriage.
Number of Years - start where you are. As it’s true the earlier a person starts investing the more time the compounding interest factor has to work. It’s also true in marriage. At the same time we can’t go back in time, so we start where we are - today. Start “investing” time with the Lord today and in HIs time He will grow your marriage.
There are lots of good devotionals available these days. But if you’re looking for a good place to start today, download the EYM Prayer Menu and start spending time with the Lord as a couple….
